Requirements / Qualifications

Possession of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, completion of six units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development coursework from an accredited educational institution and one of the following: 1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; 2) possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree; or 3) passing a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting State and Federal requirements. Paid or volunteer experience working with children ages zero to five in an organized setting is strongly preferred.

Licenses and/or Certificates: Certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED issued by the American Red Cross/American Heart Association or Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) approved training program must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period.
