Job Description / Essential Elements
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direction of an assigned supervisor, assists Special Education teachers by performing a variety of instructional, clerical and manual duties in working with elementary and secondary special education students; performs other related work as required.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Provides instruction to special education students as directed by the teachers to individuals or small groups in reading, language arts, mathematics, and other subjects.
2. Assists the teacher in supervising students during classroom activities; physical exercise periods, field trips, art projects, special events and various other activities as directed.
3. Confers, as needed, with teachers to meet student needs.
4. Assists teachers by making telephone calls and attending parent-teacher conferences and meetings.
5. Performs a variety of clerical duties including, but not limited to, duplicating, filing and maintaining various records and reports.
6. Operates various classroom office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, typewriters, telephones and copiers.
