Job Description / Essential Elements
GROUNDSMAN
Definition
Under general supervision, to operate power driven equipment as a major assignment; to perform basic grounds maintenance work and manual labor as necessary; and to perform other work as required.
Essential Duties
1. Operate power driven equipment such as tractors, power lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, and similar equipment;
2. Use tractor attachments as the job demands;
3. Operate auxiliary mechanical equipment on the vehicles;
4. Drive light truck or jeep or transport equipment;
5. Load and unload materials and equipment;
6. Make minor adjustments and emergency field repairs to equipment;
7. Wash, clean, oil, grease, and service equipment; advise supervisor of operating condition;
8. Report need for mechanical adjustment and repair;
9. Perform heavy and semi-skilled grounds maintenance and labor work;
10. Cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize, and irrigate flowers, trees and shrubs;
11. Hoe weeds, rake leaves, sweep walks, and pick up debris as required;
12. Spread poison for weeds and insects;
13. Use hand tools to work soil;
14. Load truck with trimmings and trash and assist in hauling to dump; and
