Job Description / Essential Elements
CUSTODIAN
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES
To perform general cleaning and custodial functions at assigned school site and to maintain security of assigned school buildings, facilities, and related areas. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of well-defined policies and procedures. Employees in this job class exercise responsibility for the general cleanliness of assigned areas and grounds within the assigned school site and perform custodial duties at a journey level of classification.

TYPICAL DUTIES
- Performs general janitorial, cleaning, and custodial functions at assigned school site
- Performs routine maintenance and non-technical repairs such as painting, replacing light bulbs, adjusting shades or blinds and adjusting desks
- Observes and reports the need for major maintenance repairs
- Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to proper authority
- Cleans classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, offices, and related school facilities
- Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes, and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile, and wood floors
